In January 2006, for the second time La Grande Odyssée, a unique mountain long distance dog-sled-race is taking place. With a program of 16'000 altitude meter climbing and over a distance of 1000 kilometres LGO is the toughest stage race in the world. After a lots of changes in the preparation for the 2006 Yukon Quest Emil Inauen from Davos entered the race only a view days ago.
Yukon Quest and Iditarod - the world's most spectacular sled-dog races. 1000 kilometres and more, with enormous demands on human being and animal, those races got established to huge sports events in North America in recent years.
These 'Olympics of sled-dog racing' have risen to an unbelievable significance and recognition in the world of sports. Attracting ten thousand of spectators, they are standing for the human resistance of the modern against wind, weather and cold in an impressive kind of way.
'La Grande Odyssée', now is coming in to this champions league. Leading across the Alps in Switzerland and France will place a lot of demand on participants and their dog teams. 1000 km and over 16'000 altitude meters climbing the LGO comes to the toughest stage race in the world.
The spectacular race route, which is typical for mountain people from the Alps, reminds on the altitude profile of "Tour the France". More than 20 teams from Canada, Alaska, USA, England, Scandinavia, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland got entered to race.
