Freeskiing - Slowly material and technique had changed bringing the benchmark of mobility to another level.

2002-01-27 08:28:00 - Freeriding or just skiing in alpine areas away from the prepared slopes. There are sports that enchant us, that cause our fantasy to drift away and that awake our desire, sports such as skydiving or free climbing and certainly free riding.

The feeling of freedom and distance, wilderness and remoteness causes those emotions, or the challenge and danger, the risk and uniqueness that we associate with this form of alpine sport. For me it was first just skiing, the soundless gliding on untouched powder runs, being often the reward for the tough climb to the summit. Slowly material and technique had changed bringing the benchmark of mobility to another level.

Suddenly steep, icy downhill runs got possible. My ski playground was changing from the soft and easy into the steep and hard. I have discovered my passion for mastering the steepest runs; the new way of playing got me more and more captivated. Al of a sudden there were new aspects, I found the key for bringing climbing and skiing together. On the same day, at the same mountain, on the same route, if summer or winter, the combination was fascinating.

For me the challenge is climbing the mountains and then running downhill on the same, now familiar route. Skiing where others climb up. Extreme skiing, how some call it, causes different demands on my body and mind, brings mountaineering and climbing together, integrates ice climbing and therefore is crowning my passion, skiing.
